Having carpet tiles in your home for your flooring is not that much different than having carpet. You still have to take good care of your carpet if you want it to look good and last a long time. There are some housekeeping tips that will allow you to preserve the quality of your carpet tiles and avoid having to pay to get it replaced anytime soon.
Instead of waiting for stains or spills to get on the carpet, try taking a proactive approach and have a protectant applied to your tiles as soon as you have them installed. This will make the task of getting up any stains and spills much easier. The stains will not be able to set as deep and you don’t have to worry about whether or not you have ruined your carpet tiles.
In the event you do have a freak accident and can’t prevent a spill or two from happening, make sure to get the spill up as soon as possible. If it a liquid then you want to blot the moisture up. Do not rub the spill or you are increasing the risk of the liquid getting absorbed faster into the carpet and padding and the risk of spreading the stain. Since you have carpet tiles, you can actually remove the affected tiles and clean them in a sink. Before you reattach that tile to the floor, make sure that it is completely dry first.
You can also keep your floor clean by vacuuming on a regular basis; at least once or twice a week. Dirt and debris that is left to gather on your tiles can become ground into the fibers and distort the appearance of your carpet. Overtime, it can make it much harder for you to effectively clean them.
You don’t have to resort to using any harsh chemicals for spills or stains. If you happen to spill something and it is not likely to stain, you can use water to clean the spot up. If you do have something that is going to stain the carpet, you may want to use white vinegar to remove the stain and clean your carpets. White vinegar is not going to disturb the color or decoration on your tiles like regular cleaning agents can.
If the damage or the stain on the tile can’t be removed, hopefully you have some extra carpet tiles in your home. You can always just replace any damaged or badly stained tiles. If you don’t have any extras on hand, now would be a great time to purchase some. You never know when you are going to need them.
If you find that you don’t have the time or interest to watch for stains and spills, you could always just replace the tiles as needed. That is one of the most obvious benefits of using tiles. You can replace certain ones or you can redo your whole floor in a very short time for a different look.
