Allergy Relief Cleaning For a Healthier Home

Allergies are on the increase. In fact, the current level of reported allergies is being referred to by doctors as the “Silent Epidemic.” The American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology reports that 36% of the population now suffers from allergies to one or more substances. Though it was once thought to be due to industrial pollution, studies are showing that indoor pollution is actually more responsible for this increase, with most allergens biologic in origin.

Pollen grains, house dust and dust mites, molds, and animal danders make up over 70% of reported allergens, all of which are concentrated in modern, urban homes with predominantly recycled air. These substances are found in carpeting, upholstered furnishings, and draperies where they are released into the air to be inhaled or ingested. Dust mites, in particular, are frequently implicated in triggering allergic and asthmatic reactions and are found among the highest concentrations in mattresses.

The fibers in carpets and upholstery provide a breeding environment for dust mites, molds, fungi, and other microorganisms that feed off of moisture in the air, sloughed skin cells, and dander. Vacuuming alone doesn’t effectively rid the home of these potentially serious allergens that continuously build up deep within the fibers. To effectively destroy them requires steam cleaning on a regular basis.

Professional carpet and upholstery cleaning is recommended over do-it-yourself cleaning due to the superior equipment used that cleans deeply with the heat necessary to kill or neutralize the organisms. Additional treatments are often available to further destroy these allergens and provide more effective protection from unpleasant or dangerous health issues. Regularly scheduled professional steam cleaning is the most effective way to keep a home a truly clean and healthy haven.
